Factory Five 818 Concept

Series of fully vector based illustrations depicting an orginial sports car design submitted to Factory Five as part of their open contest to the public to create the look of their newest sports car kit in 2011; the 818. This sports car would utilize a subaru turbo engine and custom spaceframe chassis, allowing for almost any mid-engined body shape. Illustrators were encouraged to show as many angles of the concept as possible, and take into account practical considerations such as basic aerodynamic principles, access to underlying mechanical components, ergonomics, panel complexity and amount of glass. My design in particular focused on more curvaceous design cues from sports cars of the 1960’s and featured a removable front and rear clip as well as targa top. As a further nod to this storied time period in automotive design, I also added classic number roundels to the hood and doors.
